The latest Gallup figures show that President Obama’s current approval ratings stand at 43 percent. Some are already predicting that the incumbent president will be the first one-termer since George H.W. Bush. However, an approval rating below 50 percent 365 days prior to an election does not necessarily mean that the incumbent president will not get re-elected. For instance, Ronald Reagan‘s ratings were 49 percent one year from his re-election in 1984.
